Two Northeast Ohio bars among three statewide to receive coronavirus health order violation citations Saturday

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Two Northeast Ohio establishments were among the three statewide that were cited overnight Saturday for violating the state’s coronavirus health orders, the Ohio Investigative Unit says.

Vivid Cocktail Lounge in Maple Heights and Tavern Off Broadway in Bedford were the two local businesses to receive a citation; the third is a bar, Avalon, in Columbus’s Uptown District.

OIU agents visited Vivid Cocktail Lounge, on Broadway Avenue, Saturday along with Maple Heights police officers, a news release from the OIU states. Authorities were prompted to go after receiving complaints from the public and health department officials.

The OIU found about 60 or 70 patrons tightly packed into the lounge, and it was difficult to move through without touching another person, the news release says. There were no other barriers in place to encourage social distancing.

Agents visited Tavern off Broadway in Bedford along with Bedford police, the OIU said. When authorities arrived around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, they noticed about 10 patrons and “evidence of recent sales and consumption of alcoholic beverages,” in violation of the health order barring sales past 10 p.m.

The administrative citation cases will go before the Ohio Liquor Control Commission for possible penalties, including fines or the suspension or revocation of liquor permits, according to the OIU.
