Daily coronavirus numbers for Houston, rest of Texas: June 30

Texas set yet another record Tuesday, reporting its first day with more than 7,000 new COVID-19 cases, according to a Houston Chronicle analysis.

The statewide total rose from 156,998 to 164,724 — an increase of 7,726 cases, the highest single-day spike so far. Another 42 deaths brought the statewide fatality total to 2,457. 
 
The state is now averaging 5,866.9 new cases per day over the last week, continuing the streak of 21 straight increases in the seven-day rolling average. 
The number of confirmed cases in Texas has more than doubled since May 31.

The Houston region’s case count is 43,673, up 1,207 from Monday. Harris County added 693 new cases Tuesday and is now at 31,422 cases total. There have been 534 deaths in the Houston region, up 3 from yesterday. The positive test rate statewide rose to 14.02 percent.

Statewide, there were 6,533 patients hospitalized for lab-confirmed COVID-19. There are 13,711 beds available and 1,405 in ICU. There were 5,561 ventilators available.
