COVID-19 hospitalizations in San Bernardino County highest since March 2021 – San Bernardino Sun

The number of COVID-19 patients in San Bernardino County hospitals has reached its highest count since March, according to data released Wednesday, July 21.

County hospitals reported 149 confirmed COVID-19 patients, the most since March 24, when 144 patients were hospitalized. Hospital intensive care units confirmed 31 patients Wednesday — a 41% increase since July 14, and representing the highest number since April 4 when 32 patients were in ICUs.

Hospital patient counts had fallen as low as 41 on June 10 and ICU levels dropped to 13 on May 30 before the state “reopened” on June 15, lifting most of the restrictions that had been in place for more than a year to limit public gatherings and slow the spread of the coronavirus.

The county on Wednesday also reported 1,548 new infections in the past week, a 2% decrease from the previous week ending July 14. In contrast, the rate of deaths in the county — a total of 40 were reported in the past week — dropped 51% from the week before. In total, 4,836 casualties have been reported in the county.

After reporting an increase in vaccinations on July 14, the county saw a 5% drop in doses administered over the past seven days, according to data released by the state. Currently, 47.1% of those eligible, county residents 12 and older, are fully vaccinated.
