Alabama adds 464 new coronavirus cases; 77% of deaths among those older than age 65

Alabama added more than 460 coronavirus cases in the last day.

The Alabama Department of Public Health’s Sept. 23 10 a.m. number show the state has had 132,452 confirmed COVID cases since March, an increase of 464 from the day before. The state also added 105 probable COVID cases, bringing the state’s total to 14,701.

The state has tested 1,070,903 people for coronavirus, 88,042 in the past two weeks. Of those recent tests, 9,392 were positive.

The state has had 2,335 deaths, up 31 from the day before. Data from ADPH shows of all Alabama’s COVID deaths, 77% were among those ages 65 and older,  despite that age group accounting for only 17% of the state’s cases. Eighteen percent were among ages 50-64; 4.8% were ages 25-49; and 0.2% were age groups 18-24 and 0-4.
